Roy Gerstner Bio

Roy Gerstner Independent Community Activist.

Born, brought up, educated, lived and paid taxes in Coates, Eastrea and Whittlesey.
Schooled at Coates & Sir Harry Smith in the 1960’s.
Technical education in North Wales, Liverpool Byrom Street & John Moores  and Warwick Universities (x2)  The hard and long struggle through trade qualifications.

Initially, seconded by the Red Cross/Marconi, taking aid to Vietnam during its final war years. Merchant Navy Electronics Engineer, over a period of 25+ years.  Travelled to over 110+ countries and 1,000,000+ nautical miles, sailed on Cargo Ships, Bulk Carriers, VLCC Tankers, Container Ships and Cruise Liners.
I Worked for Sky TV from its beginnings rising to Service Manager.

I was Surveillance Engineer/DTI for the UK Government for 4 years.

Head hunted by the Disney Corporation in 2001 as Senior Technical Engineer for Disney Company and
Disney Cruise Line.
Senior Engineer/Support Engineer for Disney Imagineering – Audio/Film/Animation/Automation.
Theatre and Installations.
Retired 2006 after minor injury caused complications.

Well known locally as a…. ‘Community Activist’.
Well known at lobbying, communicating and getting things done.

Chairman for 6 years and Vice Chairman of Whittlesey Street Pride, for 6 months. A fantastic group of volunteers that have made some big difference to our town and surrounding villages.
Now a ‘Humble Litter Picker’ once more.
Delivered some (9) fantastic Gateway projects, Flower Boats, Plough Gardens and cleared a vast amount of Litter & Rubbish from our town and villages.
Planted well over 250,000 daffodils and other spring bulbs in the area.
Still a very successful group after 10 years since being formed.

They have removed a ‘Vast’ amount of Litter & Rubbish (40,000+ Kgs ) from our Streets and Gateways Town & Villages.

I was elected as an ‘Independent’ Town Councillor 2011 -15
I stood in the May 2015 local elections as ‘Independent’ in St Marys ward as a Town Councillor and in St Andrews ward as a District Councillor.
I was defeated in the St Andrews election, and was narrowly beaten in the St Marys election.
