Showfields On-Going Planning Application

Disclaimer: These observations are not the ‘official’ minutes of the meeting, these are supplied by Whittlesey Town Council, normally (1) month following the meeting and can be viewed on their website.

As most people are aware of the building of 220 houses at the Showfields site on Thorney Road/East Delph, previously the owners of the field had several applications refused, there was a Showfields Action Group, which raised a substantial amount of money and along with FDC had another application refused. It then went to appeal and Mr Philip Rose got his appeal at the Planning Inspectorate to overturn the decision – by fulfilling all the objections at that time.
The land we understand has been sold to Persimmon Homes – who now have outline planning permission to build 220 homes. (FDC – Panning application # F/YR/15/0134/0)
There are now changes to drainage, ditch management and other changes under  :-
(FDC – Reserved Matters F/YR19/158/RM)

At last nights WTC Planning Committee meeting (WTC are consultee’s only – FDC are the ultimate decision makers) – Some robust debate took place, including the omission of a ecological survey being carried out.
Ongoing concerns of drainage, the for-ever issues of access from the ‘Birds Estate’ -becoming an open rat run for the Showfields Estate and if the Wash Road is closed, this will be the only entry/exit.
WTC Planning Committee recommended refusal of the application.
(subject to ratification at full council meeting)

I doubt very much whether ‘we’ shall ever get the project shelved or stopped, but there are many questions that still hang over this large development – Schools/Dentists/Surgery & Road safety to name a few.

Lastly on the subject for now – what ever happened to this ‘Country Park’ which was promised.
We had 2 Supermarkets planned at one time along with 2 Country Parks – None of which have happened or been delivered.
